Medals for exemplary service were handed out to six deserving members of Oxford EMS Wednesday. Recipients had to serve at least 20 years, with 10 of those years being street level duty. Manager of Oxford EMS Joe Pember says it's not a long service award, but one given to those that have demonstrated a strong commitment to their service. Two Oxford EMS employees received medals for 40 years of exemplary service. Pember says only 46 people in the entire province have ever received that award. "Actually being in EMS for 40 years at all is a feat in its own. But to continually serve for 40 years in the manner that they've served is very uncommon," said Pember. Wayne Krakowski is now one of the four members in Oxford to receive that award. "I started in October of 1968 on Mill Street in Woodstock, the original Woodstock Ambulance Station. I've pretty well been in Oxford County the whole 43 years now," said Krakowski, "I'd love to start it all over again just because it's so exciting. I had such an exciting career." Pete Foster also received the 40 years of exemplary service medal: "Anybody that works this long at the same job must love it, like I do. So this means a lot to me."
