Oxford Small Business Centre Hit Hard By Loss of Self-Employment Benefit Program

Expected to impact staff and budget.

INGERSOLL - The Oxford Small Business Support Centre based out of Ingersoll has been helping to grow entrepreneurs in Oxford County for the past 16 years.

During their Annual General Meeting it was learned they gave out over $800,000 in loans in 2014 to 9 local businesses and plan on matching those numbers this year. The Centre is known to give young entrepreneurs a chance and works with small businesses to see them succeed.
General Manager Allan Simm talks about some of the services the non for profit organization offers local entrepreneurs. "Well were here to help entrepreneurs when their thinking about starting a business or if they are starting or even expanding, so we have a number of things we can do to help, we can meet with them one on one and provide some feedback on their business idea, feedback on their business plan and we try to hook them up with the right resources."

One of the things that was talked about at the AGM was losing the Ontario Self Employment Benefit Program which will no longer be available. Simm admits the loss is tough and it is going to impact our organization in terms of staff and budget. However he says they are going to continue to serve Oxford County and ways to support local businesses through our loan program and free consultations. For more information you can visit the Oxford Small Business Support Centre at their office in Ingersoll.
