TAVISTOCK - A new taxi cab company serving Oxford County is going to be based out of Tavistock.
Oxford Taxi and Delivery officially launched yesterday. Co-owner Don Robinson explains why they wanted to move into Tavistock.
"I met up with an elderly lady and she couldn't get her groceries, so I said, well something has to give here, so that is why we started Oxford Taxi and Delivery, we will have a mobility van for people in wheel chairs, we have vans we have cars and we also been working with Allan Sims from Community Futures Oxford and we are going to have hybrid cars, Toyota Camry's that are made in Oxford County.
They will be operating 24/7, so if you have a few drinks in a rural spot, you can now get a cab to get home. The OPP even put out a photo of the business launch yesterday, with the hopes being that having a rural taxi service available will help curb impaired drivers with #chooseyourride.
Gezahgn Wordofa is the other co-owner and he is thrilled to offer this service in Oxford County.
"We live in a wonderful country, it is wonderful in Canada and we live in a wonderful community in Oxford. I am a newcomer to this country and so many newcomers to this country have no way of getting access to transportation. We used to have to call taxis from Woodstock or Stratford to give us a ride. We need rides to places like the doctor, English lessons, citizenship exams and I am so happy to provide this service to the rural community."
The plan is to eventually have about 15 drivers, using hybrid vehicles, they are already have a couple on the road.
