The Paint the Town Gold for Hunter Facebook group is encouraging people to place a gold ribbon outside their home in order to show their support for the family of four-year-old Hunter Weston.
OXFORD COUNTY - A new initiative is taking over Oxford County in honour of four-year-old Hunter Weston
Sarah Greenfield and Jennifer George started the Paint the Town Gold for Hunter Facebook group Wednesday night, encouraging people to place a gold ribbon outside their home to show their support for the Weston family.
George says the campaign blew up right away.
"Within minutes we had over 500 members with everyone requesting ribbons. We've ordered and made what we can but unfortunately there is a limit."
George says they won't be able to order ribbons for everyone, so she's encouraging others to find their own ribbons or another way they can decorate their homes with gold to show their support. Participants are also being encouraged to share photos of their decorated homes on social media with #HunterStrong.
Hunter has been battling Neuroblastoma for over a year now. He has undergone 11 rounds of chemo and countless surgeries. He recently tried an experimental treatment that did not prove to be effective and the family is out of options for the little guy and the family has started looking into funeral arrangements.
Several fundraisers have been held over the past few months for the Weston family. George says Hunter's story has touched a lot of people in Oxford County and beyond.
"It just really hit home in such a small community and he's so young. I know his parents personally and they're amazing people. It would be great to show them that we are here for them."
