Para-Transit Services Might be Extended to Saturdays

It'll cost the city an extra $13,500 to carry its Para-Transportation service into the weekend for the remainder of the year. Currently, the service is only offered Monday through Friday. Mayor Pat Sobeski says numbers show that there's a want for Saturday service. ?Generally speaking Monday to Friday they average something like 22, 23 rides each day. The Saturday program that started without any advertising is averaging 15, 16 rides. So we anticipate that with advertising it?ll get the same usage as Monday to Friday. He says Para-Transit hours will have to match bus services by the start of next year according to new legislation: ?The province has indicated that effective January 2013 if you operate a Para-Transit service it has to match the same hours as the conventional buses. So we?re obligated to do this come January first.? Councillors will vote tonight on whether to start the service immediately.
