A new campaign asks parents to find effective ways to deal with misbehaving children without using physical or emotional punishment.
Oxford County Public Health is encouraging parents to check out a new campaign designed to help them work challenging child behaviour for kids between 0 and 5.
Children See Children Learn was developed in partnership with the Best Start Resource Centre as a toolkit for parents and caregivers. Supervisor of Health Promotions Rhonda Manning tells Heart FM they want to provide parents with support when it comes to dealing with every day challenges.
"Helping them to manage their stress while their children may be misbehaving a bit and it really shows that punishments such as slapping, spanking or shaming children don't work and can actually harm your children."
Manning says parents are encouraged to sign up for the program online and take the pledge to find positive strategies to deal with their child's behaviour.
"And what it does it is saying they are going to commit to finding some positive strategies to deal everyday challenges with their young children without using physical or emotional punishment."
