Peel Public Health Closing Businesses With COVID-19 Outbreaks

Businesses in the Region of Peel will be forced to close, if they have 5 or more employees test positive for COVID-19.

UPDATE: Toronto Public Health is following Peel's lead. They will also be closing workplaces with five or more employees with cases of COVID-19.

---
Peel Public Health announced this morning they will be shutting down workplaces with five or more employees with cases of COVID-19.

Peel Region includes major centres like Brampton, Mississauga and smaller communities like Caledon. Any work place with five or more employees who have tested positive will now be closed for 10 days. The Health Unit will post the names of these businesses on their web site.

Peel Region Medical Officer of Health Dr. Lawrence Loh says he is using his powers under Section 22 of the Health Protection and Promotion Act.

"At this critical juncture in our pandemic response, the updated provisions in this Section 22 Order are necessary to quickly stop variant transmission in workplaces, support rapid workplace investigations, and protect our essential workers and our community."

This order is retroactive to any businesses with cases over the past 14 days.
