The Oxford County Canadian Cancer Society has launched their Pigs of Hope Campaign for the fall.

WOODSTOCK - Your Spare Change can provide hope to someone fighting cancer.

The Canadian Cancer Society have launched the Pigs of Hope Campaign. Everyone is invited to adopt a cancer society piggy bank for your home or office.

Manager Janis Cunningham tells Heart FM the idea is to collect your spare change and the money will be used for the Canadian Cancer Society Wheels of Hope transportation program.

"When someone is told they have cancer, those words change everything and so this program exists to ease the cancer patients mind, help take away the worry of how they are going to get to their appointments, allowing them to focus on their treatments and getting better."

She adds they have contests for best dressed and the best name for the piggy banks.

Last year in Oxford County, 40 drivers travelled 126,331 km driving more than 122 neighbours to 2,037 cancer-related appointments. Without the Canadian Cancer Society Wheels of Hope Transportation Service, many of these patients would have no other means to get to treatment. They are raising the money because the average cost per ride is approximately $50.

Piggy Banks can be picked up at our Community Office at 65 Springbank Ave North, Woodstock, Monday to Friday from 9:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. (please note that we are closed from 12:00 – 1:00 some days for lunch). Some evening hours are also available. If you can't make it to the office but would like to adopt a piggy bank, please call our adoption hotline at 519-537-5592 or 1-877-577-7797.
