The Woodstock Navy Vets, the Norwich Merchants, and the Thamesford Trojans have advanced to round two.
PJHL - Three of Oxford County's Junior C hockey teams have advanced to the next round of the PJHL playoffs.
The Thamesford Trojans demolished the Lucan Irish 6-2 on Friday, winning their Yeck Division series 4-1. They will now face the Exeter Hawks in the second round, and the schedule has yet to be released.
Meanwhile in the Doherty Division, the Woodstock Navy Vets celebrated a 5-2 win over the Paris Titans Friday night, winning the best-of-seven series 4-1. Ethan Szabo scored twice for Woodstock, while Connor Stanley, Tyler Smeda, and Owen Lukings take credit for the other goals. Scott Rodrigue finished the night with 29 saves for the Vets.
The Norwich Merchants had a busier weekend, beating the Wellesley Applejacks 3-2 in overtime on Friday, suffering a 5-2 loss to Wellesley on Saturday, and bouncing back with a 3-1 victory over the Applejacks yesterday. Norwich won the series 4-3 in the end.
The Tavistock Braves doubled the Hespeler Shamrocks 4-2 on Friday, but suffered a 7-1 loss yesterday. This means the Braves will have to fight to stay alive when they host the Shamrocks in Game 7 of their series tonight. The puck will drop at 7:30 p.m. at the Tavistock and District Recreation Centre.
If the Braves win the series, they will be up against the Navy Vets in the second round, while the Merchants face the Firebirds. If they lose the series, the Shamrocks will battle the Firebirds, while the Navy Vets take on the Merchants.
