The Woodstock Navy Vets and the Norwich Merchants both celebrated two wins over the weekend.
PJHL - It was a great weekend for two of Oxford County's Junior C hockey teams.
The Woodstock Navy Vets beat the Wellesley Applejacks 5-4 Friday night, with Lucas Balanca scoring the winning goal with just 36 seconds left in the game!
The Vets went on to beat the New Hamburg Firebirds 6-4 on Saturday. The game followed Woodstock Hockey Day at the Reeves Community Complex, which saw the U10A Jr Navy Vets beat London 3-1, the U15A Jr Navy Vets slip past Stratford 2-1, and the U16A Jr Navy Vets beat Sarnia 3-1.
The Norwich Merchants also celebrated two wins over the weekend. They doubled the Tavistock Braves 6-3 at Nor-Del Arena Friday night and slipped past the Hespeler Shamrocks 2-1 yesterday.
The Firebirds are currently leading the Doherty Division standings with 22 points. They're followed by the Merchants and the Applejacks with 18 points each. and the Navy Vets are not too far behind with 17 points. The Dorchester Dolphins are in fourth place with 12 points, and the Braves, the Shamrocks and the Paris Titans are tied for fifth place with eight points each.
In the Yeck Division, the Thamesford Trojans suffered a 5-1 loss to the North Middlesex Stars Friday night and fell to the Port Stanley Sailors 3-2 on Saturday.
Thamesford is tied with the Sailors for fourth place in the Yeck Division standings with 12 points each. The Exeter Hawks are tied with the Petrolia Flyers for first place with 24 points each and the Stars sit in second place with 15 points.
