It's a sigh of relief from neighbours of the former Beckett's Farm Market. The developers of that site are changing their plans to build 56 townhouses, instead of a 12-storey apartment building. They were granted the zone change and official plan amendment by city council Thursday night. Mayor Pat Sobeski believes this will fit more with the neighbourhood. "This is an indication of where the market is. It's one thing to say you want to build 'The Golden Towers', but there also has to be a market for that. So this is not only good news for those that live on Melborne, but also neighbours of the old hospital site." The developers, Nellwood Construction and Ray Losee, won an OMB appeal against the city to construct a 12-storey building, but will now build 56 townhouses.
