Plans and construction is being done to turn an old building into something new in Woodstock's downtown.
WOODSTOCK - There is a plan for the old Oxford Hotel.
The ground floor will be redone to fit 4 commercial tenants, while the upper levels will be retrofitted into rental apartments. The project is a collaboration between Keith Beres and Bryan Saelens, who are working closely with the Woodstock Museum and Woodstock Historical Committee with the goal to save as many pieces from the original structure as possible. Those items include stained glass pieces, windows, brick features and fireplace elements. Mayor of Woodstock, Jerry Acchione says how great of a project this is.
"It’s exciting to see this important piece of our Downtown being given a new life, while preserving the historical significance of this building” Not only will the project create much needed residential units and bring more people downtown, but the developers have deep roots in our community and are committed to the success of our downtown."
Discussions for this project began last year in April, and the deal was closed in May of this year. The commercial spaces have already had construction started, while the number of apartments is still being determined. The total length of the project is expected to be 18 months.
