Most of the vehicle thefts over the past four weeks have been the result of unlocked vehicles with the keys left inside.
WOODSTOCK - Woodstock Police are providing the public a few tips after a rash of vehicle thefts in the Friendly City.
Officers have been working diligently to recover numerous stolen vehicles over the past four weeks. Most of the vehicles were stolen because keys were left inside unlocked cars and trucks. This includes vehicles in driveways in Woodstock and on farm properties outside of the city limits.
Woodstock Police would like to remind everyone to protect their property:
- Never leave your keys in your vehicle unattended
- Do not leave valuables in plain sight – empty out your vehicle each day
- Lock your vehicle’s doors
- Ensure your vehicle is supervised while it is warming up
- Consider investing in a remote start if your vehicle does not already have that feature so your vehicle can remain locked and without keys to start
- Consider investing in a security camera system to deter crime against your property or assist officers in identifying suspects.
Typically windows will not be broken to gain entry unless there are valuables in plain sight.
