Police Report

Chief Rod Freeman presents 2013 Police Report to Board.

2013 is being hailed as another success for Woodstock Police.

Chief Rod Freeman presented his annual report to the Police Services Board Monday which he calls one of the best he has ever compiled.

Freeman says overall there was an 11 percent reduction in reported crime over 2012.

"What that consisted of was a 10 percent reduction in violent crimes since 2010, a 21 percent reduction in property crimes since 2010 so the trend is very good. We are seeing crime levels go down. At the same time, our enforcement levels are going up as we try and apprehend offenders and get them before the courts to be held accountable."

"We've continued our effort to displace and disrupt the drug culture and we've had some success in that regard. You're seeing a reduced number of charges but because that's fewer targets out there for the drug intelligence unit to surveill and we see that as a success."

"We've been able to put a cap on the number of motor vehicle collisions that are occurring at about 775 a year. We've reduced the number of serious motor vehicle collisions and thereby reduce the number of injuries that were experienced too. Overall it's a very good report and we're quite pleased by the effort that was put forth by the officers in 2013."

On the flip side, domestic related charges rose 66 percent over 2012 with 421 charges laid.

The annual report is meant to be a snapshot of the force's accomplishments over a 12 month period.

Freeman says the report will be posted to the Woodstock Police website.  Click here to visit the WPS site.
