Police Respond to Mass Shooting at Michigan State University

A gunman opened fire at Michigan State University last night, killing three people and critically injuring five others. The alleged shooter died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound hours later.

MICHIGAN - Three people have died and five others sustained serious injuries after a mass shooting at Michigan State University.

MSU police say a gunman opened fire at the Berkey Hall academic building on East Lansing campus at around 8:30 p.m. last night. The campus is about a 90-minute drive from the Detroit-Windsor border.

Hundreds of police officers responded to the shooting. Students, faculty, and staff members were told to shelter in place during the search for the gunman.

Officers confronted the 43-year-old male suspect off campus about four hours later. That's when police say he shot himself and died of the self-inflicted gunshot wound. He was not a student or an employee at Michigan State University.
