An information barbecue was requested to take place in museum square but was denied access by the city
OXFORD COUNTY - Those looking to take part in an event to raise awareness on the importance of voting will have to travel outside of Woodstock.
City Council put a stop to a group trying to hold an information barbecue in Museum Square. Oxford County resident Allen Howard explained why the event was turned down. "What I wanted to do is have an information barbecue, unfortunately when you say barbecue it is fundraising. I want people out to vote, people that don't normally vote they can send a clear message this year to Ottawa, vote what they know." Howard was disappointed with the outcome and knows Oxford County needs to spread the word about voting, especially to younger demographics.
Howard will now be travelling outside of the Friendly City to hold the event. "It will happen, I've already got the approval by council in Ingersoll, all I have to do now is fill out the paperwork and I will have it. I wanted to give Woodstock, as the Capital of Oxford County, the first shot at it. I'm hoping for Tillsonburg and Tavistock we have people out trying those areas." Howard expresses he is not pleased with the current government and wants to show the community other parties platforms.
It didn't take Woodstock City Council long to pull the plug on an information barbecue and Howard explains why he believes city council rejected his request. "Being Oxford County is so strong with Conservatives I think it was a Conservative thing. There is only 15% of the population of Canada that are in the wealthy category and 85% that isn't and I think that is why." The information barbecue in Ingersoll will take place at the gazebo on Thames St. South in the next couple of weeks.
