CN Railway are negotiating with a potential buyer for Trillium Railway
TILLSONBURG -- While the deadline for a new owner has passed, Canadian National Rail may have a buyer for the east/west rail line running through Tillsonburg.
Back in December Trillium Railway, which owns St Thomas and Eastern Railway announced they would be ceasing local operations because the cost of updating bridges and trestles was too high.
South Central Ontario Region's General Manager Art Lawson says an original deadline of June 20 was given for a new owner to be found or else the line would be completely shut down.
Lawson says he had spoken with CN a few weeks ago and they claimed they were negotiating with a potential buyer and should have an announcement in the near future, though Lawson says no official timeline was given.
Should the line completely stop operating, several businesses in the Tillsonburg area would be forced to use trucks to ship their goods adding to the traffic on our roadways.
Businesses using the line include Johnson Controls, Wellmaster Pipe and Supply as well as International Beams.
