Tillsonburg Hydro Corporation has hit a wall, and a potential collaboration could keep rates low for customers.
TILLSONBURG - A collaboration could be coming to Tillsonburg.
Tillsonburg Hydro Corporation has run into some issues, which have been behind the talks taking place. Mayor, Deb Gilvesy says what a potential solution could be.
"The town was exploring the option of collaborating with ERTH Corp and THI would be under the ERTH banner. The town would keep its voice at the table of like-minded small municipalities."
Gilvesy says they are exploring this option because Tillsonburg Hydro Incorporated as a stand-alone utility has hit a brick wall when it comes to Capacity, Capability, Connectivity, and Compliance. Gilvesy adds that ERTH Power has been managing the operations of Tillsonburg Hydro on behalf of the Town of Tillsonburg under a management contract since 2023. Gilvesy speaks to why the collaboration would be needed.
"If the utility to remained a standalone utility, it will more than double the rates to the existing users. So, this is about going through this process is looking at sustainability and the long run to our rate payers."
The Town of Tillsonburg will be hosting community information sessions on September 29 from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at the Tillsonburg Community Centre, and October 6 from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at the Tillsonburg Town Centre. Gilvesy mentions there is a four minute video that explains the details as well, and you can click here to view the video.
