"I listen to everyone, but I listen to Dr. Williams, he is the Chief Medical Officer and he believes that people need to limit mobility, they need to stay home."
Premier Doug Ford says the Province closed golf courses and placed restrictions on outdoor activities to limit mobility.
Speaking at Queens Park in the legislature, the Premier was asked about the Ontario Science Table, who have gone on record saying golf and outdoor activities such as tennis and volleyball are safe, as long as people wear masks when they cannot properly physically distance.
The Premier says he has a great deal of respect for the science table and the health table.
"We did receive a couple of messages there to limit mobility and when I asked Dr. Brown from the science table, he has a little chart of what you can do and what you can't do. When it was outdoor playgrounds and I just saw it last week and I will send a copy to the leader of the opposition, it had a big no beside it."
Ford says they were told the only way to open playgrounds was if everyone wore masks.
"Mr. Speaker, how many people when you drive by those playgrounds do you see people wearing masks? You don't see anyone wearing masks. So there is a little bit of a message, limit mobility, make sure everyone stays home, but in other cases, if they go out, everyone has to wear a mask."
Ford says the good news is the numbers are levelling off.
"So the protocols, the guidelines are working and Mr. Speaker, I listen to everyone, but I listen to Dr. Williams, he is the Chief Medical Officer and he believes that people need to limit mobility, they need to stay home."
Deputy Premier Christine Elliott and Solicitor General Sylvia Jones will have press conference today at 12 pm for a vaccination update. The Premier is not expected to make an appearance.
