Premier Urges the Feds to Lower Gas Prices

"These gas prices are out of control, I'm asking the Federal Government, stand shoulder to shoulder with us, reduce the gas tax that you are getting."

Ontario Premier is calling on the Federal Government to do something about soaring gas prices.

The average price of gas right now in Oxford County is around $1.42 a litre.

Premier Doug Ford was asked today about his campaign promise to lower gasoline prices by 10 cents a litre. Thus far, the Province has only cut 4.5 cents a litre of the Provincial gas tax. Premier Ford says they plan to keep their promise.

"We are going to keep our promise of 10 cents, I just wish the Federal Government would fall in line as well. We are reducing costs and they keep jacking the costs up."

He says we can't keep increasing the costs of gas prices and putting the burden on the backs of people.

"These gas prices are out of control, I'm asking the Federal Government, stand shoulder to shoulder with us, reduce the gas tax that you are getting. We will do our part, we have already done 4.2 cents and we will commit to up to 10 cents, inclusive of the 4.2 cents."

Ford says we need to give the folks a break.

"That is what drives the cost up on everything. I have said this for years and if the Feds are listening, stand shoulder to shoulder with us, you have done it throughout the pandemic and by the way, you did a great job, you spent billions of dollars supporting people across the country, supporting the Provinces, now it's time to put money back in people's pockets and their is no better way than by reducing gas prices."
