WINNIPEG - Canada's premiers will hold a virtual press conference in Winnipeg today, as children's hospitals across the country deal with a triple threat of respiratory syncytial virus, influenza, and COVID-19.
Admission rates have been on the rise and some hospitals have had to cancel surgeries and appointments in order to redirect staff members amid staffing shortages.
The Canadian Red Cross has been in to help The Children's Hospital of Eastern Ontario. Meanwhile, Rotary Flames House in Calgary has paused all of its pediatric hospice services and discharged all of its respite patients, so staff members can be redeployed to the Alberta Children's Hospital.
The Alberta Medical Association has sent a letter to the province's acting chief medical officer of health in order to call for stronger public health measures.
