Prepare for a Snowy Commute This Week

It's the calm before the winter storm in Southwestern Ontario and OPP Acting Sergeant Ed Sanchuk has a few tips for drivers.

OXFORD COUNTY - Environment Canada has issued a winter storm watch for most of Southwestern Ontario, including Oxford County.

They are calling for 20 to 30 cm of snow between Wednesday afternoon and Friday morning. Heavy and blowing snow will create visibility issues on our highways.

The storm will start out as rain on Tuesday night.

OPP Acting Sergeant Ed Sanchuk says if you do plan on driving during the storm, make sure to clear all the snow from your vehicle before you hit the road.

"Please make sure that you clean off your entire vehicle of snow. That includes, your roof, your trunk, your hood, all your surrounding lights and make sure you turn off all of your light systems.

Sanchuk says the storm we got earlier this year was a good reminder of why we need to ensure our vehicles are winter ready.

"Make sure your vehicle is prepared for the winter months, ensuring it is in tip top shape, you have good winter tires, a battery, you have an emergency kit in the back of your vehicle and a charged cell phone."
