People in Princeton are fed up with the lack of improvements made to an aging wastewater system.
PRINCETON - Removal of wastewater in Princeton was heavily discussed at County Council last night.
Several residents voiced their anger with the lack of improvements over the past several years. Resident of Princeton, Craig Van Wees, says the aging septics are causing very serious problems: "They're breaking down contaminating the aquifer and the county brought in water so that nobody would get sick. There is recognition that there is a problem; we did some further testing and found the storm waters had E. coli and fecal content, which further demonstrates that there is a problem. We are just trying to get a solution for the residents of Princeton."
As the current sewer system slowly breaks down, Van Wees just wants to see the county decide on an answer. "We've been frustrated because public works has been resisting our efforts. They brought in water about 5 years ago - the subject problem just comes down to cost and allocating resources, but why they are not addressing the problem I don't know."
Director of Public Works, Robert Walton, outlined possible solutions to fix this problem: "We consulted with the township, we could come up with an outcome that services Princeton only, we could come up with an outcome which is a Princeton - Drumbo combination. It still could come out with a do nothing situation. We just want to reassure the people of Princeton that we will be looking into this further, and that the initial sampling, although there is indication of pollution, it doesn't mean that it is an overwhelming problem."
