The money will go to 15 schools in Oxford County who utilize the student nutrition program.
WOODSTOCK - Produce Express in Woodstock was able to donate $4,224 to the Ontario Student Nutrition Program.
The money will go to 15 schools in Oxford County who utilize the program. The program started in 2015 and is run through Southwestern Public Health. Produce Express has been providing the schools with health snacks and food, to make sure every kid has the energy they need to get through the day.
Owner of Produce Express Daniel Overbeek explains how they were able to raise this money.
"We also have an online retail program that we sell to the general public and what we do is if you enter the fundraising code for your school, we donate 10 percent of the retail orders to the school and it goes directly to the Student Nutrition Program."
Overbeek says Produce Express is proud to supply the Student Nutrition Program in Oxford County with fresh produce and snacks.
"4 years ago we were primarily a whole saler, we supplied restaurants, hotels and institutions but about 3-4 years ago we had a few schools ask for produce and it escalated from there. We put a program together where the schools can order through our web site and we've increased it to milks, cereals, cheese stings, granola bars and so forth. We have partnered with VON and we supply some of the programs that they have as well."
Principal of Southside Public School Karen Langford says the snack program is really important to their school community.
"Our children really rely on having those regular healthy snacks and we are very appreciative of Produce Express and their donation to our snack program."
