Province to Fund Five Transitional Supportive Housing Units in Woodstock

The Ford Government is setting aside close to $1.1-million in order to fund five transitional supportive housing units on Parkinson Road in Woodstock.

WOODSTOCK - The province is investing close to $1.1-million to create five modular, transitional supportive housing units in the Friendly City.

Minister of Municipal Affairs and Housing Steve Clark made the big announcement during a virtual press conference this morning.

“Our government's $765 million Social Services Relief Fund was designed to provide immediate housing and homelessness program relief in communities across Ontario. Supporting innovative solutions like this new modular housing in Woodstock is critical, as we work to keep our most vulnerable residents safe and housed, both during the pandemic and into the future.”

Warden Larry Martin says the five transitional supportive housing units will be part of a two-story, eight-unit modular complex located at 738 Parkinson Road in Woodstock.

“The proposed construction is an extension of the existing 36-unit building on the property and will add eight new micro-units to Oxford County’s social housing inventory. It’s another solid step in the right direction, and is made possible thanks to nearly $1.1 million in funding received through the Social Service Relief Fund.”

Oxford MPP Ernie Hardeman says this means vulnerable people in Woodstock will have access to housing for years to come.

“These new units will provide a supportive environment to individuals experiencing homelessness as they look for more permanent housing solutions, helping to ensure that everyone in our community has a safe place to call home.”

The 400 square ft units will be close to public transportation and the residents will have access to counselling and support services.

Construction will begin this summer and project should be completed before the end of the year.
