Curl Ontario predicts the tournament could inject about $400,000 in the Woodstock economy.
WOODSTOCK - Some of the best curlers in Ontario will face off at the Woodstock Curling Centre.
The Friendly City is set to host the 2023 Mixed and Senior Mixed Provincial Curling Championships from April 12th to the 17th.
Event Co-Chair Judy Farlow says curling fans will be able watch the games for free, whether they're stopping by in person or their live streaming the action through the Curl Ontario website.
"This is different than some of the events that are in the arenas, which would be the Scotties or the Briar. It's a Mixed and a Senior Mixed (championship), so it's just held in a curling centre so people can just come and see us that weekend and watch some really good curling."
The winner of the Mixed tournament will advance to nationals, while the winners of the Senior Mixed tournament will end their season as provincial champions. The qualifiers for both tournaments will be taking place in March.
Farlow says hosting the championships will bring a lot of money into the Friendly City.
"Curl Ontario did some modeling and they say it can bring about $400,000 worth of economic value into the City! That's through all of these 64 people staying in local hotels and eating in local restaurants."
Farlow says they're currently looking for event sponsors, and those interested should contact the Woodstock Curling Centre.
