Multiple witnesses were heard from at the Bonita Purtill trial Monday, including her former boyfriend Robert Colwell. Colwell said he and Purtill were roommates at the Fairview Crescent home and had been in a relationship at one time. In his testimony, he denied there was any domestic violence in the home and said on the day in question, he had seen Purtill consuming one drink but did not see her finish the glass of wine as she prepping a turkey in the kitchen. He said she also had a mixed drink which was spilled in the garage. During his statement to police in February 2010, Colwell had said he saw Purtill consume two drinks with a third being spilled. Colwell said he did not speak to Purtill at the scene of the crash but spoke with her at the Woodstock hospital. He did not see signs of impairment and thought she "seemed fine". He said that she seemed "angry" and did not want him speaking to police. He did refuse to give a statement at that time. Defence Lawyer Peter Kratzmann suggested Colwell had assaulted Purtill, and that she had fled their home in the truck just prior to the crash. Colwell denied the suggestion. The trial will resume on Wednesday.
