Operation Sharing's Food for Friends program was presented with a $9,137 cheque on Thursday afternoon from three local grocery stores.
WOODSTOCK - The Food for Friends Quarter Matching program raised over $9,100 this year.
Over the holidays, Sobey's and Foodland in Woodstock and the Ingersoll Foodland would match every quarter donated at the till for Food for Friends. Owner of the Woodstock Foodland Chris Chapman explains why they are always happy to help Food for Friends and Operation Sharing.
"It's a terrific program, first and foremost, it helps the people in our community that need a little bit of extra help and that can happen to anybody at any time and it is a great way to give back. It treats people with a certain amount of respect, let's them make their own decisions when they are purchasing their food."
Owner Operator of the Ingersoll Foodland Scott Clarke wanted to thank his staff.
"Without the help from our staff and the community of Oxford County to make this happen, the customers donating their money and our staff doing their best to promote the program in the store, it really is a great program."
Store Manager of Sobey's Woodstock Jason Hart explains why they continue to support Food for Friends and Operation Sharing.
"We are very involved in the community and we like to support local organizations and show what we can offer in times of need and this is a great program to support."
Chair of Operation Sharing Marilyn Schmiedl wanted to send out a big thank you to everyone who helped donate.
"We rely on these donations 100 percent, it's great that the community is a great supporter of Food for Friends all year round but when it comes to quarter matching they really step up to the plate. We really want to thank Corporate Sobey's and the Foodland Stores in Ingersoll and Woodstock. I also want to thank the cashiers that work hard and get the people excited about giving a quarter."
The grocery chains did the quarter matching over the Christmas Holidays this year, as opposed to previous years when they would do it on Thanksgiving.
