TMMC Donates 6,000,000th vehicle produced in Woodstock to CMHA
WOODSTOCK - Toyota Motor Manufacturing Canada is celebrating a milestone and Canadian Mental Health Association of Oxford is benefiting.
The sixth millionth car built at TMMC will come off the line today and that RAV4 is being donated to CMHA Oxford.
Executive Director Mike McMahon says he's very grateful for the donation.
"The vehicle will be used to reduce the barrier to healthcare that is experienced by many Oxford County residents as they seek to have some relief from mental illnesses or other challenges that they are land locked to; either a rural property or a remote destination where it's almost impossible for them to seek care."
McMahon says the need for transportation services in Oxford County and any other area that mixes rural and urban is in an extreme state.
"Simply because of the inability of the current transportation capacity, whether it's Red Cross to deal with the number of people who truly need transportation services. We are fortunate because Woodstock -- here at the centre of the County -- does have a bus service but that's a very small part of the area that is served by the Canadian Mental Health Association."
Vice President of Manufacturing, Phil Rodi says TMMC felt it was fitting to mark their milestone with this donation.
"We found out that transportation was one of their big needs so being a company that builds vehicles, we thought it would be well suited. We are always looking across to help anybody we can if possible. Not only with money or donation but also with our time. I think that's critical to be engaged in the community. That's one of our basic philosophies."
