Read Woke is a new program from the Woodstock library that encourages patrons to choose authors with different voices.
WOODSTOCK - The Woodstock Library is asking patrons to Read Woke.
Manager of Public Services Darlene Pretty says the reading program focuses on equity and inclusion.
"It is about expanding the reading you would normally do and looking at different voices, indigenous voices, black voices, Asian voices, it is just expanding what you would normally read and look at other ethnic groups and just expanding your experiences with reading those books by various authors."
You can access the Read Woke program the online book club platform called bean stalk. You can find more information on the library web site here.
Pretty says more and more people are using library services during the stage 2 lockdown.
"People are calling in like crazy, asking us to set aside books for them. You can still go to our catalogue and place holds for books and then just come in to pick them up. You don't need an appointment for curbside, once you know you have holds available, just come to the front doors and our staff will retrieve those books and sign them out for you.
All of the WPL programming is still virtual right now. They have programs for children, teens and adults to check out.
