Members of the WITAAR will be collecting donations for the Salvation Army food banks.
OXFORD COUNTY - Local realtors will be hitting the streets for the Realtors Care Food Drive once again.
It's happening in Woodstock, Ingersoll, Tillsonburg, Innerkip, Embro, and Sweaburg on Wednesday May 1st, with the yellow door hangers being distributed from Thursday April 25th to Monday April 29th.
Tammy Betzner is a local realtor who is a member of the Woodstock, Ingersoll, Tillsonburg & Area Association of Realtors. She says the door hangers include important important information about the food drive.
"That door hanger is going to say, someone is coming back on Wednesday May 1st. They're coming to your house between 6:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m. and you don't even have to see us! You just have to leave that food donation on the porch. Whether it's in a box or a bag, I don't care how it gets there, but we are going to get that to the people in need and you can feel fabulous about yourself."
The door hangers also include information regarding the most needed items for the local Salvation Army food banks.
Betzner says the Woodstock food bank relies on the Realtors Care food drive every year.
"The Realtors Food Drive gives the Woodstock Salvation Army enough food from May 1st to the beginning of September. So we cover and fill their shelves until Christmas time when everyone starts thinking about giving again."
Kelly Byers, another local realtor and WITAAR member, started the food drive back in 2010 and it has donated over 250,000 pounds of food since then. She was diagnosed with acute myeloid leukemia in June 2023 but has still been actively recruiting volunteers for the food drive.
WITAAR will be sponsoring a Blood for Byers blood drive at Goff Gym this Thursday from 1:00 to 7:00 p.m. The event will also serve as a kickoff for the Realtors Care Food Drive, so those who attend should bring non-perishable food items with them.
Tammy Betzner stopped by the Heart FM studio to chat with Dan and Marcie on Tuesday April 23rd. You can listen to the full interview below:
