The Red Cross has recognized three people for their attempt to save a man in Ingersoll after he collapsed at a baseball diamond.
INGERSOLL - People gathered in Ingersoll to honour one man's memory and thank the three people who tried to save his life.
First Aid Coordinator at the Canadian Red Cross Kelly Farrell says Pete Adamthwaite collapsed at home plate while playing baseball. Farrell tells Heart FM three nearby people with CPR training sprung into action to try and save his life.
"Unfortunately the rescue was unsuccessful, but in his memory the local ball teams have all pulled together and purchased AEDs to be located at Ingersoll ball fields to be there and accessible for others who may need it."
Deke Young, Chris St. Clair, and Lori Prestwich all followed through with their Red Cross training quickly, and although in this case it was not enough to save Adamthwaite, Farrell says they did everything they could.
"Just walking back off homeplate where the awards were delivered...ball teams and the fire department personnel just all lined up and everyone got a hug and shook hands and there were a lot of tears. I like to think they were tears of joy because everyone worked together to come up with the best possible legacy for Pete."
