The walk is scheduled for September 20th and about 180 people have registered so far.
WOODSTOCK - The Hike for Hospice will return to Roth Park in Woodstock this fall.
It's scheduled for Saturday September 20th this year. Registration will start at 9:00 a.m., the tribute ceremony is scheduled for 10:00 a.m., the hike will begin at 10:30 a.m. and there will be a barbeque lunch for the participants at 11:00 a.m.
All of the money raised goes to VON Sakura House, a 10 bed residential hospice located in Woodstock. A total of 344 patients stayed at Sakura House in 2024, absolutely free of charge.
Fund Development Coordinator Chelsea Stephens says Sakura House relies on the funds raised from events like Hike for Hospice.
"We're only partially government funded. Things like heat, hydro, groceries and maintenance on the house are not included so this is what helps us keep that free for patients and their families."
She is expecting lots of people to pack Roth Park for the event this year.
"Last year we had just over 350 people register, but we had over 400 in the park! This year our registrations are getting a little bit higher because we're already at about 180 people."
VON Oxford will have a grief support tent onsite as well as a blood pressure clinic, and volunteers VON's Smart Exercise classes will lead a group warm up before the walk. Kids on site will be able to participate in a scavenger hunt and visit the Happy Hippo tent to do some crafts.
