The Relay for Life event in Woodstock managed to raise over $36,500 for the Canadian Cancer Society.
WOODSTOCK - It was the first in-person Relay for Life since COVID began and it was a huge success.
Meghan Tennant, the Signature Events Specialist with the Canadian Cancer Society, says it was a great day at College Ave Secondary School in Woodstock on Saturday.
"We raised over $36,500 which was really exciting for us especially in this year of rebuilding after being virtual for the last two years."
She says they had a pretty good turnout.
"I think with volunteers we had about 70 people. We had over 70 participants that were registered, but we did have some bad weather in parts of Ontario as well as Saturday, so we did have a little bit less turnout at a lot of our Relay for Life events due to the weather."
We did get some rain in Woodstock on Saturday, but it didn't last very long.
All of the money raised will go to cancer research. It will also benefit support programs for cancer warriors and their families.
