Reports Suggest Province Will Make PSW Wage Increase Permanent

There are reports that the Ford Government is planning on introducing legislation in order to make the pay raise for personal support workers permanent.

ONTARIO - Ontario is planning to make the hourly wage increase for personal support workers permanent.

It's currently set to expire at the end of the month and it has been extended several times since the pandemic started two years ago.

The Canadian Press is now reporting that the Ford Government will introduce legislation to make the increase permanent, citing a senior government source.

This will affect about 158,000 workers across the province, providing publicly funded services in home and community care, long-term care, public hospitals and social services. Workers in long-term care and community care have been getting paid an extra $3 per hour and workers in public hospitals have been getting paid an extra $2 per hour.
