STRATFORD - A resident of the Cedarcroft Retirement Home in Stratford who tested positive for COVID-19 has died.
The resident had underlying health conditions before they became sick with COVID-19 symptoms last week. Huron Perth Medical Officer of Health Dr. Miriam Klassen says the health unit is so very sorry to hear of this loss.
“Our thoughts are with the individual’s family and friends, as well as with Cedarcroft residents and staff during this difficult time.”
Huron Perth Public Health continues to work closely with Cedarcroft to support case and contact management and infection control. As of November 3, there are 9 confirmed cases associated with this outbreak, 7 residents and 2 staff. All affected residents continue to be cared for at Cedarcroft. Testing on staff and residents at the home continues for anyone who develops symptoms; if new cases are identified, close contacts may also be tested whether symptomatic or not. Executive Director at Cedarcroft Dan Vito wanted to offer his condolences to the resident and their family.
“We are saddened at the passing of a long-time resident who over the years was active, engaged and loved by neighbours and staff. Our thoughts and prayers are with the family at this time.”
Dr. Klassen says they continue to monitor the situation at Cedarcroft very closely.
“We know how serious this infection can be for our vulnerable populations, including our seniors in retirement and long-term care homes and in those with underlying health conditions. HPPH continues to work closely alongside all retirement homes and long-term care facilities to protect residents and staff.”
