Ride Don't Hide A Huge Success

Over 100 people participated in the first Ride Don't Hide event to hit Oxford County.

WOODSTOCK - Over 100 people participated in the first Ride Don't Hide event to hit Oxford County.

Cyclists were out in full force in the Friendly city taking part in three rides to support mental health services. Ride Don't Hide runs were held in 28 communities across Canada on Sunday including Woodstock in support of the Canadian Mental Health Association.

The local branch was able to hit their goal of $20,000 for the rides in the Friendly City. Executive Director of Oxford Self Help Laura Earle tells Heart FM why people were riding on Fathers Day. " To raise awareness and raise some money and let people know and see that you don't need to hide from mental illness, it is a part of life and many people have mental illnesses."

The money raised will be going to support outreach projects into Tavistock and Norwich to assist people living with mental struggles who may not have access to transportation to get into the city centres.

The Ride was also a family affair in honour of Fathers Day and we saw a number of father and son and father and daughter participants during the day. They also had some bouncy castles and other fun stuff to keep the kids entertained and Heart FM's own Dan Henry was the MC this year. Riders got to choose between a fun family 5 k, a medium sized 13 k ride through the city and a grueling 50 km ride taking people through Oxford County.
