CMHA Oxford is seeking volunteers for the county's first Ride Don't Hide Event
WOODSTOCK - Volunteers are needed for the first ever Ride Don't Hide mental health awareness event in Oxford County.
On June 21st cyclists will gear up to eliminate the stigma associated with mental illness. Canadian Mental Health Association outreach coordinator Kathlene Campbell-Conlon says the event was created by a man from Vancouver.
"It began with one man's journey (Michael Schratter); he is living with bipolar and he rode around the world because he wanted to eliminate that stigma and he wanted people to stop hiding, and for people to get out there and be proud of what you are."
The annual cycling fundraiser also helps communities raise money for mental health services in their community. To date the event has managed to raise $100 000 for CMHA and has engaged more than 6 000 participants.
If you are interested in volunteering you can contact Kathlene by e-mail at KathleneCampbell-Conlon@cmhaoxford.on.ca
