Several road construction projects in Woodstock will really impact traffic over the next couple of months.
WOODSTOCK - It's often stated we have two seasons in Canada, Winter and road construction season.
We have officially entered road construction season in Woodstock and a number of projects have started already with more in the works. City Engineer Harold De Haan tells Heart FM about some of the construction projects this summer that will really impact traffic.
"We will be doing work between Parkinson and Dundas, we are widening that road from two lanes to three and putting traffic signals also at Parkinson, another project that will impact traffic a fair bit is we are putting a new water main underneath the railway tracks at Wilson Street."
De Haan adds if a road is closed for construction, it is illegal to drive through and you will get charged by police.
"Technically it is not a public road when it is under construction, it's the contractor site and it actually is illegal to drive through a construction site and the reason why the law is like that is purely for safety reasons it is for the safety of the workers. We want to remind people to plan ahead if you know there is construction, plan ahead for your own convenience so you can avoid delays and get to your destination on time and also plan ahead so you are not frustrated and you are not breaking the law by driving through a construction site."
He notes this is a safety issue for the crews working.
