The virtual event will inspire women and people with different ages, demographics and cultures to run for local government.
OXFORD - The Municipal Campaign School is hosting a virtual event for aspiring politicians, with the next election a little over a year away.
Run Where You Are will inspire women and people with different ages, demographics and cultures to run for local government.
Lindsay Wilson is the Deputy Mayor of Ingersoll and she's also a member of the Oxford Chapter of the Municipal Campaign School. She says former Premier Kathleen Wynne will be the keynote speaker.
"Political stripes aside, that is not part of the conversation, what we want to hear about is her experience. She would still encourage people to get involved despite what you might think her experience was like and I think that's really powerful."
Woodstock City Councillor Kate Leatherbarrow is also a member of the Oxford Chapter. She says Run Where You Are will be split into two parts.
"We're obviously going to have the panel and Kathleen Wynne, but we're also going to have breakout sessions to dive into deeper conversations and connect people with resources depending where they live."
The virtual event will begin at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday September 23rd and it's free to register through Eventbrite online here.
The next municipal election is scheduled for October 26th, 2026.
Lindsay Wilson and Kate Leatherbarrow stopped by the Heart FM studio to chat with Dan and Marcie on Friday September 19th. You can listen to the full interview below:
