Motorists will have to be on high alert over the next few mornings. As students head back to school, drivers are set to face a whole new set of circumstances out on the roads. There will be an increase in pedestrian traffic, cyclists and school buses. If motorists pass a bus with its red lights flashing, you could face a 2000-dollar fine, plus demerit points. But the warnings aren't just for drivers, GM of Southwestern Ontario Student Transportation Services Maureen Heath says students also have to be mindful of their own safety, especially with the excitement of back to school, " As soon as they see their friends at the bus stop, they want to run to be with their buddies again, if parents can really remember to hold their hands, reign them in a little bit to keep them safe so that they're not rushing the bus or into the traffic areas. It's really important to use good bus etiquette over the first couple weeks as everyone builds those routines". Heath says the bus drivers are ready, and have been testing out their buses and their routes for the upcoming school year.
