Several Provinces Announce Plans to Lift COVID-19 Restrictions

Four provinces have announced plans to remove their COVID-19 restrictions. Here in Ontario, Health Minister Christine Elliott is expected to announce a plan to distribute rapid tests at pharmacies and grocery stores.

CANADA - Alberta, Saskatchewan, Quebec and Prince Edward Island have announced plans to lift their COVID-19 restrictions.

Alberta officially ended its vaccine passport program for non-essential businesses and events at midnight last night. It's also going to lift its mask mandate for kids under 12 and all students in schools on Monday. All other restrictions will be lifted March 1st.

Saskatchewan will end it's vaccine passport program on Monday. Saskatchewan Premier Scott Moe also says the province will not renew their mask mandate at the end of March.

Quebec is planning to lift most of it's restrictions by March 14th and Prince Edward Island is planning to end most of it's public health measures in April.

Meanwhile, there is no word as to when the COVID-19 restrictions will be lifted in British Columbia. Premier John Horgan says he will be listening to the advice of public health officials when it comes to creating a timetable for removing restrictions.

There are several reports suggesting Ontario Health Minister Christine Elliott will announce a plan to hand out free COVID-19 rapid antigen tests at grocery stores and pharmacies this week. There will be a limit of one box of five tests per household per visit and more details will be announced during the press conference at 11:30 a.m. today.
