Severe Thunderstorm Watch

Environment Canada says a severe thunderstorm is possible later this afternoon and it has the potential for wind gusts to reach 100 km/h.

OXFORD COUNTY - Environment Canada has issued a severe thunderstorm watch for most of southwestern Ontario, including Oxford County.

They warn of the potential for wind gusts to reach 100 km/h with heavy rain. A tornado is also possible, as is nickel size hail. The storm is expected to hit later this afternoon and into the early evening.

Lightning kills and injures Canadians every year. Remember, when thunder roars, go indoors!

Severe thunderstorm watches are issued when atmospheric conditions are favourable for the development of thunderstorms that could produce one or more of the following: large hail, damaging winds, torrential rainfall.

The Office of the Fire Marshal and Emergency Management recommends that you take cover immediately if threatening weather approaches.
