United Way Oxford Campaign Chair Brad Janssen will shave his head bald if the Local Love campaign raises $5,000 this week!
OXFORD COUNTY - United Way Oxford is bringing Local Love to the county.
The week-long event shines a huge spotlight on how to show, support and give love to the community. Showing Local Love will make an impact in the community, and give everyone the opportunity to make a difference for Oxford. The event runs until Friday February 17th, with daily activities planned each day for the cause.
United Way Oxford Campaign Chair Brad Janssen wants to spread the word that any donation amount is appreciated.
"A dollar is a dollar. We're not looking for big bucks all the time. Thank you so much to all the groups pitching in, and it's not too late to have an official campaign if you want."
Janssen also shared that he might be getting himself a haircut if Oxford County can raise $5,000.
"Dr. [Leonard] Reeves, who is a rockstar in this community, he says you know what if you raise funds, I will match it up to $5,000. So, we sat around the table and thought how can we do this? And all eyes turned to me so I said, you know what I will shave my head!"
Upper Thames Brewing Company and Boston Pizza Woodstock are joining in on the fun as well. Upper Thames is releasing their Local Love Beer for a limited time, with proceeds going to the United Way Fund. Boston Pizza is donating $1 for every heart-shaped pizza ordered on February 14th.
Julie Rutherford, Resource Development Coordinator for United Way Oxford explains how the idea of Local Love began.
"With the needs increasing day after day, we are just a little short this year [for donations] and we are just trying to bridge the gap. So, we thought why don't we take a week and focus on local love and show the community how you can give back."
