Oxford County's Ella Shelton scored the first goal in the PWHL in its inaugural game on New Year's Day.
TORONTO - Oxford County's very own Ella Shelton is now in the history books.
The Foldens native scored the very first goal in the Professional Women's Hockey League yesterday, halfway through the opening period at Mattamy Athletic Centre in downtown Toronto.
Shelton plays defense for New York and she helped lead the team to a 4-0 victory over Toronto. Fellow Canadian Corinne Schroder also made 29 saves to record the first shutout of the league.
The two teams will meet again on Friday January 5th, when New York hosts Toronto at Total Mortgage Arena.
Shelton was drafted to New York in the inaugural PWHL draft in September 2023.
