Siemens Contract

Siemens Canada awarded large contract, good news for their Tillsonburg plant workers

275 workers in Tillsonburg have plenty of work to take them through the next year.

Earlier this week, another big contract was announced by Siemens Canada to produce 67 wind turbines.

They'll be supplying the Grand Renewable Wind Project in Haldimand County.

The blades for those turbines will come from the Siemens Plant in Tillsonburg which has come a long way according to VP of Wind Power for Canada Jacob Andersen.

"We have worked on ramping up Tillsonburg to be ready to take these orders and also orders in the future and it is of course a pleasure to see all the motivated employees producing what is our first Canadian manufactured blades."

While the long term forecast for wind turbine production remains up in the air, Andersen says they are very happy with current demand in the Ontario market.

Siemens is also having the plant produce a new type of blade.

"We also just started to produce the new B-55 blade. That is going to be installed in Ontario later this year. It will be the first time that blade is being installed on a turbine in the Americas."

B-55 is a reference to the blade's length - 55-meters.  The Tillsonburg plant currently produces B49's.

The new blades will be used as part of the Grand Renewable Wind Project in Haldimand County.
