Director Joseph Martino says the 49-year-old man's shoulder injury is not considered serious under the SIU mandate.
WATERFORD - The Special Investigations Unit (SIU) has called off its investigation into a Waterford arrest.
Two OPP officers responded to a domestic incident on June 13th last year. A 49-year-old man was arrested and he reported having shoulder pain afterward. He even sought medical attention and an ultrasound showed that he had a rotator cuff tear in his right shoulder.
The SIU started looking into the arrest on November 16th, after a complaint was filed. According to Director Joseph Martino, it has since been determined that the man's injury was not serious enough for SIU involvement.
The Special Investigations Unit is called in whenever there is an incident with police that results in death, serious injury, sexual assault, and/or discharge of a firearm.
