The Norwich & District Skating Club will be hosting its annual carnival this Saturday and the theme this year is New York, New York!
NORWICH - The Norwich Community Centre will be a busy place this weekend.
Angela Simpson, the Treasurer of the Norwich and District Skating Club, says they will be hosting their annual carnival this Saturday.
"We are proud to present this year's carnival theme 'New York, New York!' We have showtimes at 1:30 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. and the skaters have been working really hard to put on a good show for everybody and they're excited to show that off."
The show will feature skaters as young as 2.5 and as old as 18. Some of the skaters are just learning how to skate for the first time, while others have been skating for almost their whole lives.
The carnival will also include a special performance from Summer Homick and Marty Haubrich. They're Canadian Junior Silver Medalists and they train out of the Gretzky Centre in Brantford. Homick is originally from Tillsonburg and Haubrich recently moved to Ontario from Saskatchewan.
Simpson says the club was able to hold skating practices from September to December in 2021. They had to shutdown during the lockdown in January but the skaters were able to return to the ice in February. During the pandemic, the club has also had to follow several COVID-19 health and safety rules such as masking and dedicated ice times for skating sessions.
Simpson says the skaters look forward to the carnival every year and the club has not been able to host a carnival since 2019.
"In 2020 they had just started practice when everything got shutdown. So the skaters super excited to be doing the carnival this year."
Simpson says each show should be just under two hours long and you can find the admission prices below.
