Sally Creek Bistro takes home the "Golden Ladle" Award at SoupStock 2013

The Quality Hotel & Suites was nearly boiling over with another strong turnout for the 3rd annual SoupStock competition.

The fundraiser for Domestic Abuse Services Oxford was another success.

A dozen local restaurants put up their best signature soups, but only one could be awarded the Golden Ladle Award.

That went to "Smoke Stack Soup" from Sally Creek Bistro.

General Manager Gary Hastings knew they had a winner with their take on a Reuben sandwich.  "Our chefs explained to us what we were going to be doing here, that it would be something unique.  The flavour was just absolutely wonderful.  It was kind of modeled after the Bistro and the smokestack so we felt we really had a good chance."

The Smoke Stack Soup was the unanimous winner amongst a panel of six local judges, including Woodstock Police Chief Rod Freeman.  "The favourite one of mine was the Smoke Stack Soup because I like a soup that actually bites back when I sink my teeth into it, and this one fit the bill."

And so with tradition, last year's winner of the Golden Ladle, Will McNamara of Ody's Restaurant, handed off the award to Sally Creek Chef Alaina Robillard (in photo).

Winner of the People's Choice Award went to Craigowan for their Curried Apple and Roasted Pumpkin soup.

But Barb Wright with DASO says Soupstock is an event where everyone wins, as the public enjoys the variety of soup, local restaurants get to offer their unique creations, and it's a key fundraiser for Domestic Abuse Services Oxford.
