Smoke from forest fires is affected the air quality in southern Ontario.
UPDATE (8:57 a.m.) - Environment Canada has cancelled the special air quality statement.
---
OXFORD - We're currently under a special air quality statement in Oxford County.
Environment Canada says smoke from forest fires will affect southern Ontario today and possibly even tomorrow as well.
This could cause some health risks especially for those over 65, pregnant mothers, young children, and those with a chronic illness. The same goes for people who work outside.
The mild and common symptoms include headaches, a mild cough, or eye, nose and throat irritation. The more serious and less common symptoms include wheezing, chest pains or severe cough.
It's a good idea to limit your time outside if possible. You should keep your windows and doors closed as much as possible, unless the temperature inside gets too warm. In that case, Environment Canada says you should prioritize keeping cool.
